Every route costs

Your route costs hearts

By default, you have 45 seconds to prepare after the start. After that, moving costs half a heart every five blocks. You do not need to sprint: ordinary walking counts too.

The challenge counts movement forwards, backwards or sideways. Climbing straight up or down normally does not count. Teleports, respawns and world changes reset the count to zero.

Normally, moving forwards, backwards or sideways counts. Moving straight up or down does not. Teleports, respawns and world changes reset the count to zero.

Example round: after the grace period, a long plain lies ahead. You take the shortest safe route, keep food ready and stop when needed to heal before checking your hearts again.

What to expect from your run

Rule complexity
The further you move, the more hearts you lose. Walking and detours count too.
Experience
Finding short routes and gathering enough food makes travelling easier.
Time commitment
Long routes need more food and breaks to heal. Expect the journey to take longer.

Before you start moving

Tips for Running = Damage

A short planned route saves health compared with an uncontrolled sprint.

01Keep the route short
Find the shortest safe way to your goal. Curves and detours also add to your distance.
02Keep food ready
Bring enough food. Stop somewhere safe, eat and let your hearts refill. A food break does not reset the distance counted so far.
03Use the grace period
Gather food and wood during the first 45 seconds. You will have less distance to cover for them once the grace period ends.

Running = Damage FAQ

Which movement costs health.

When does the damage start?

By default, you have a 45-second grace period after the start. Then you lose half a heart every five blocks. These values may differ depending on the run settings.

Does jumping or climbing count too?

Jumping or climbing straight up or down normally does not count. If you also move forwards, backwards or sideways, that part of the distance does count.

What happens after a teleport?

The blocks you already walked no longer count, and you start again from zero at the new location. A world change also resets the distance by default.
