Which challenge fits your group?
A good run gives everyone something to do. First decide whether you want to discover things together, look after each other or deal with unexpected problems.
Four starting points for your choice
Each suggestion uses a single challenge with its default settings. Choose something everyone wants to play rather than stacking as many rules as possible straight away.
Not everyone knows every recipe
Block Drop Randomizer
Block Drop Randomizer rewards the sources you discover. You do not need to know every crafting recipe to test a new block type and contribute a useful find.
- How you work together
- Experienced players search for the items your goal needs. Others test nearby block types or gather supplies from sources you have already discovered. A find helps everyone because its mapping stays the same throughout the run.
- Choose something else if …
- … your group prefers familiar resource routes. Even a familiar block can give a completely different drop.
You want to look after each other
Protect Your Wolf
Protect Your Wolf gives each participant a companion. If one of these wolves dies, the entire group loses the run. Caution becomes a shared responsibility.
- How you work together
- One person secures the next passage while the others wait with their companions. Move on once everyone has crossed. Before fights and steep drops, agree who prepares the route.
- Choose something else if …
- … some players like to rush ahead without coordination, or one mistake should not end the whole run. Losing a companion ends this challenge.
You know survival and want interruptions
Crafting = Mob
Crafting = Mob turns a routine action into a group event: by default, each completed recipe adds a mob. Crafting large batches can bring many mobs.
- How you work together
- One person crafts in small batches while another watches the area behind them. Clear dangerous mobs and keep an escape route open before processing the next batch.
- Choose something else if …
- … someone is still learning recipes or combat and needs a quiet space. Unplanned crafting can cause problems for the others too.
You like roles and deliberate equipment choices
Hotbar Only
Hotbar Only limits regular items to nine slots per player; offhand and armor remain available. You need to choose what to take and who carries it.
- How you work together
- Split tools, food and building materials before a trip. Everyone does not need to carry the same spare items. Before leaving, check that the group has everything needed for the next stage.
- Choose something else if …
- … you want to collect everything spontaneously and spend little time sorting. The limit applies to each player, even in a larger group.
Three things to agree before starting
A shared goal
The challenge changes your rules; the goal determines when you win. Agree on defeating the Ender Dragon or discovering all natural biomes, for example, and check that everyone wants to take that route.
What a mistake can cost
Check the death limit and Shared Life in your run settings. An additional rule such as a companion's death can end the whole run independently of those settings. Read that consequence together before starting.
Who does what
Divide the first tasks and swap roles if someone ends up only gathering supplies. One rule that everyone understands is enough for your first run.
Turn your choice into a shared run
Your chosen challenge's detail page explains the rule and how to start. Invitations, parties and server access have their own guide. Your server's player and challenge limits depend on its host.
